What is Chimney Inspection?

A chimney inspection is the examination of both the interior and exterior of the chimney. A chimney inspection identifies any issues that may arise with the structure and functionality that may impact the safety of its use. There are three different levels of chimney evaluation.

What Does a Chimney Inspection Entail?

Throughout the chimney inspection, a certified chimney inspector will look for damages, abnormalities, and hazards that compromise the efficacy and safety of the chimney. The chimney inspector will look for damages to issues with the chimney’s exterior or interior and place a ranking between one and three. Level one is the lowest, and level three is the highest in ranking. Level one indicates that the chimney is in good condition and level three indicates that the chimney isn’t safe for use and may require a deep cleaning, professional repairs, or even complete replacement.

Why is it Important to Have Your Chimney Inspected?

Chimney inspections are important for a wide range of reasons. These inspections help reduce fire and carbon monoxide risks associated with the fireplace, stove, and furnace. Chimney inspections can also make heating your home safer. During a professional chimney inspection, we will check your system for creosote buildup, flue blockages, leaks, cracks, and other damage. Without routine chimney inspections, chimneys can cause costly problems and increase the risk of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning. Chimney inspections provide protection and peace of mind, so their importance is paramount.

What is a Level 1 Chimney Inspection?

Level 1 Chimney Inspection is the minimum requirement for any venting system, such as your home’s chimney. It is also the most common type of chimney inspection. If you intend to use your chimney, this level of inspection will suffice prior to use. During this inspection, homeowners will have the readily visible portions of their chimney’s interior and exterior professionally evaluated. A certified technician from ChimneyTek will ensure that your chimney is sound of structure and flue and free of combustible deposits, and free of any obstruction. We will provide safe usage of your chimney.

What is a Level 2 Chimney Inspection?

Level 2 Chimney Inspection is a bit more complex than Level 1 Chimney Inspection. This type of chimney inspection is required when buying or selling a property with a fireplace, having a chimney that has survived weather or fire damage, or if you wish to use the chimney for extended periods. This inspection includes the design, installation, maintenance, and inspection of your chimney. During this inspection, there will also be a visual inspection of the inside parts of the fireplace and the chimney.

What is a Level 3 Chimney Inspection?

Level 3 Chimney Inspection is typically required when the chimney’s construction is necessary for its continued or renewed use. This inspection type is usually performed when there are unseen defects. During this inspection, one of our professional technicians may open or remove an interior wall to access various hidden parts of the chimney. If a serious problem has been identified with your chimney, this is typically the inspection type that will be performed to determine the necessary repairs.
